National War Memorial Southern Command

National War Memorial Southern Command is a memorial situated in Pune cantonment locality of Pune. And it is dedicated to post independence war martyrs and many more emperors who shaped history of India. It is nearly 3 kms from Pune station and 8 kms from Swargate station. It is totally free entry museum and opens 9.30-12.30 and 3.30-7.00.

It is so far biggest memorial I've ever seen in Pune. National War Memorial Southern Command must be cleanest and well maintained museum of all, maybe because it is operated by Pune Cantonment Board and Army people are so well disciplined, can't get any better than this.

Memorial is properly planned and well landscaped from it's garden to footpath, it's sculptures to it's war equipment. Everything is just perfect and do look good.

Not only after independence but times of Maratha emperor Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Tipu sultan, Maharana Pratap, Raja Krishndev Ray are also exhibited to show the historic revolution of one of greatest leaders in India against Mughal Emperor and British. Painting are hanged on the wall to show the stories of them and painting are amazing.

After heading forward to path there is a different museum building of after independence stories and equipment. There are many stories of every war that happened with India. And people who fought the war with bravery and outstanding courage, and their stories too are showcased there.

You will also get to see heavy guns, missiles, tanks and planes which use in battlefield. If you wish to buy some t shirts, key chains, mugs etc. of War Memorial Museum then there is store which sells these things in minimum amount. It was great experience to be in the one of biggest museums of Maharashtra. If you live in Pune and yet didn't visit this place then please do visit, tourists already visits this.
